...the Gift of Time Says 'I Love You'

As another gift-giving holiday approaches, people are being much more careful about how they spend their money. Sure, flowers are nice; but they’ll be gone in a few days. This Valentine’s Day is the right time to give a gift that can last a lifetime. There’s no better gift than committing to spend precious time with your loved one and away from the strains of daily life. The American Resort Development Association (ARDA) points to a growing body of research that shows there are undisputed, long-term benefits associated with taking vacations that contribute to stronger relationships and better health.

Instead of roses that wilt or chocolate that melts, this Valentine’s Day give a lasting gift to your loved one that will help better your relationship. “For a variety of reasons, experiences [such as vacations] are more likely than material possessions to foster social relationships,” according to Leaf Van Boven, Marketing Professor of Cornell University.

And there are many terrific destinations to discover. According to the exchange companies Group RCI and Interval International, among the top most traveled U.S. destinations for timeshare in 2008 were Florida, Nevada and South Carolina. Can you imagine spending a week with your loved one relaxing on a beach in Miami? Perhaps finding yourself in the breath-taking views of the Sonoran Desert is more your style. Or how about a week exploring Hilton Head?

Vacations should be seen as a necessity rather than a luxury. The timeshare industry has long since promoted the need to take time to vacation at least once a year. In fact, it’s one of the reasons why timeshare owners continue to travel despite tough economic times.

“People are looking for options to get the most value out of their vacations,” said Howard Nusbaum, president and CEO of ARDA. “Timeshare accommodations allow time and space to enjoy each other’s company instead of spending money on cramped accommodations.” And timeshare ensures this process will happen at least once a year, every year, which means a healthier, more relaxed life.

This Valentine’s Day, think twice before buying your special gift because everyone not only deserves a vacation, but a better vacation. Make this Valentine’s Day one to remember every time you are enjoying your time away.
